Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum set a new Guinness world record for the longest singing marathon

Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa Aduonum who embarked on a journey to break a world record for the longest individual singing marathon on 24th December has surpass the 105hours time record and set a new 120hours record time .

In her attempt to break the Guinness world record by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in March 2012, Afua has been singing Ghanaian songs back-to-back at the Akwaaba village.

Afua’s journey which commenced at midnight on December 24 was expected to end on December 27, which means she will be singing non-stop for 4 days 9 hours but as at friday 29th December she was still singing .
The mother of 2 has been performing Ghanaian songs back to back at the Akwaaba village where an number of Ghanaians including A-list musicians and politicians have gathered to support her.

Afua’s attempt comes a few days after some Ghanaian musicians called for promoting Ghanaian songs during the Yuletide.

The event-leading trends across the social media space in Ghana with the hashtag #AfuaAsantewaaSingathon appear to have made the 2023 Christmas in Ghana a memorable experience.

Many social media users and patrons of the mini-event have all commended Afua for her effort.

Meet Sunil Waghmare, the current Guinness World record holder for the longest singing marathon

According to an official report by Guinness World Records, the longest singing marathon by an individual lasted 105 hours and was achieved by Sunil Waghmare (India) in Nagpur, India, from March 3-7 2012.

The record attempt started at 11.06 am on March 3, with a variety of popular Indian songs being sung. No song was repeated within 4 hours. The attempt ended on the evening of March 7, 2012.
